Reconstructive Surgery Cases
Reconstructive
surgery may be necessary to correct injury to facial structures resulting
from injury, cancer, or other diseases.
Such procedures — for example,
repairing facial fractures, corrective nasal surgery, upper eyelid blepharoplasty,
and scar revisions — can restore a more normal facial appearance
or improve a functional problem.
Some reconstructive surgeries are covered
under
one's insurance benefits. Some examples of reconstructive facial surgery
include:
Case 1. Rhinoplasty
A functional rhinoplasty was necessary to correct this woman's traumatic
nasal injury and to improve her breathing.
Case 2. Rhinoplasty
This man's nasal fracture was repaired during outpatient surgery.
Case 3. Rhinoplasty
Corrective nasal surgery straightened this teenager's nose and also
improved her nasal breathing.
Case 4. Scar Revision
A car accident left this teenager with a large forehead scar. A two
stage repair was performed. Initially, the scar was excised. Later, a
laser was used to smooth and provide additional camouflage.
Case 5. Rhinophyma
The laser was used to restore a more normal appearance to this man's
nose with rhinophyma, a condition caused by growth of the oil and sweat
glands within the skin.
